The Mummy Returns!

...Well not that one...or that one either...

From Empire Online:

Well, this is unusual. Following Rachel Weisz's decision not to reprise her role as Evelyn in the third film in the Mummy saga, the film has now picked up Maria Bello. In the new film, Bello, Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford, as their now all grows up son, head to China and the Himalayas where they do battle with a shapeshifting mummy and a former Chinese Emperor (Jet Li), who's been cursed by a sorceress (Michelle Yeoh).

Bello's fantastic in films like A History of Violence and Thank You For Smoking, so we're all for this as a casting switcheroo. Hopefully the material will be worthy of its new leading lady.

Hmmm plot sounds kind of cool and I do love the other two movies so we'll just have to see...still I'll miss Racel Weisz's sweet, bumbling, eccentricity.

I think its a bad idea. Rachel Weisz pretty much stole the show in the last two Mummy films and while Maria Belo is a good actress, she's no Rachel Weisz.

This film should not be made, the story sucks, the casting sucks and the director sucks.

Maria Bello will be a lousy replacement for Rachel Weisz.

I agree Rachel pretty much was the heart and soul of the last couple of movies and Maria Bello is nowhere near the actress Weisz is.

That said I really do like Fraser's O'Connell character and I always get a little excited when they go for an asian twist, I adore Michelle Yeoh and don't mind Jet Li either.

You are probably both right however, this movie should not be made. Especially after the trainwreck that was Van Helsing, I'm not alltogether convinced Stephen Sommers can make another good movie. And this is coming from someone who enjoys Deep Rising. Yeeeouch!

Stephen Sommers is not even directing this film. Rob Cohen of the classic film "The Fast and The Furious and the beloved cinematic classic "Stealth" (I’m being sarcastic) is directing. Yes, this movie is going to suck.

Rachel Weisz brought class and a real sense of fun to the Mummy films, something Maria Bello can't do.

While I do like the plot you posted, I don't like the man heading up the picture, Mr. Cohen.

I thought Cohen was done doing pictures after 'Stealth'.

I guess it finally made a profit.

Hell, I thought Cohen was done doing pictures after fucking up such a can't-miss idea as a dragon done with the technology of Jurassic Park and the voice of Sean Connery.

Oops, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt. Don't mind me. Go about your business.

I don't know why some people really hate the Mummy movies? I thought they were great and will happily sit through another one and won't moan about it not being nominated for best picture at the academy.

Really though if there is some way that Cohen could combine Fast and the Furious with the Mummy that would be great and maybe more cast changes such as Paul Walker would be very welcomed.

I'm picturing an imported lime green with neon mummy who uses nitrous oxide to make his escape!!!

Ohhhhhhh you know that's going to be good.

Mitch-
Yuck Rob Cohen! I had heard that but I forgot. To be fair I do like 3 movies by the man, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, The Rat Pack and Dragon Heart...the rest...well...what the fuck was XXX anyways? Oh god and he directed Stealth too! Sad.

Still I'm curious. I'll withold judgement til I see a preview.

Semaj-
Yeah Rob Cohen is kind of a weenie.

MC-
LOL! Yeah on video I'm sure! People just wanted to look at Jessica Biel's ass for two hours.

Ben-
I kind of liked Dragon Heart. I saw it a couple of times in the theater...though I will admit it has a few flaws.

Dr. Zaius-
Yeah! Someone noticed! I was so excited to find the photography stuff on the Yahoo avatar page!

Lee-
I wish I knew! I really enjoyed the heck outta the first two, I even enjoyed The Scorpion King movie though it's not even close to the quality of the other two.

Never could get into The Fast and the Furious though. That Paul Walker is too pretty for his own good.

Still the idea of a pimped out mummy with neon and bass cannons really cracks me up!

Without Rachel, this is nothing. Not even Michelle can get me there. It's like my beloved Ziyi in Rush Hour 2. Still, no. Thinking about that makes me very, very depressed... :(
