Happy Birthday Timothy Dalton!

It's one of my favorite actors and my favorite James Bond's birthday today so I thought I would honor the man by listing 5 facts you may or may not have known about him:

1. In mid 1986, he and Sylvester McCoy were performing together with Vanessa Redgrave in a season of Shakespeare at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. Dalton and McCoy sympathized with each other about the difficulty in finding good long-term acting jobs. A year later, McCoy was Dr Who and Dalton was James Bond.

2. According to the James Bond film tailors in London, at 6' 2" he is the tallest of all the Bond actors. The tailors who have fitted and measured each of the 5 Bonds over the years claim the following heights for each of the other Bond actors: Sean Connery 6' 1 1/2" without shoes, George Lazenby 6' 1 1/2" without shoes, Roger Moore 6' 1" without shoes and Pierce Brosnan 6' 1" without shoes.

3. He played Lord Asrail in a London stage adaptation of the His Dark Materials trilogy. In the film The Golden Compass, this role is played by Daniel Craig, who also succeeded him in the role of James Bond.

4. Desmond Llewelyn claimed in an interview of Dalton that his portrayal of James Bond was closer to Ian Fleming's original novel version of the character than any other Bond actor.

5. Dalton loves fishing, especially in the Pacific.

While I find him to be a fine actor, Dalton is my absolute least favorite Bond.

I know that he's been given a great deal of credit for being the closest to "getting Bond right" (prior to Casino Royale, that is), but I just couldn't enjoy his portrayal.

I loved him in Hot Fuzz, he was so dastardly.

Still have a soft spot for the Connery flicks since that's what I grew up on, but I thought Dalton was great as Bond.

Dane-
Most people agree with you I think but there's something about Dalton I've always liked. License to Kill is in my top 3 or 4 Bond movies. But I get you man.

Who is your favorite?

Pidomon-
Yeah someone who likes Dalton too!

Swinebread-
Hmmm good question...I hear it's beautiful out there.

PJ-
He was one of my favorite parts of that movie. He's not in nearly enough movies.

Randal-
The Connery flicks are great...with the exception of Diamonds Are Forever...just never liked that one. You Only Live Twice is probably my favorite Bond movie. That or From Russia with Love. What's your favorite?

I've read all the Fleming books and I thought Dalton nailed Bond. I think he's also underrated as Bond.
