Hey Nesmith my eyes are up here.

Who could blame Mike? After all it's Julie Newmar!

Yes it came as a bit of a surprise to me to but Julie Newmar was on an episode of The Monkees. A crazy, crazy scary looking episode of The Monkees... All four of the Monkees fall in love with the same girl, April Conquest, of the local laundromat. Each one of them tries to woo her by feigning interest in things she likes: Davy paints pop-art, Mickey performs ballet, Peter plays chamber music while Mike rides a bike.

Anyways here are more pictures from the episode...

Weird... I just watched a few episodes of The Monkees with my daughter before I checked your blog.

It's always interesting to find unexpected celebs in shows like this. The one we just watched featured Vic Tayback (Mel from "Alice)as a mobster.

My all time fave episode. And I am a Monkees fanatic! Watching Julie and "The Girl that I knew Somewhere" (one of my favorite Nesmith compositions) is my idea of several minutes of heaven. I try and do it about once a week! Great post.

I remember watching all of these on MTV way back in the 80s. Now I feel old. I can only imagine how old Michael Nesmith feels.

The Monkees!

I saw them at a live concert several years ago. What was really impressive was they ran around the whole stadium a couple of times before they played.

I rememeber thinking "take it easy or you'll break a hip."

Gilligan-
Same thing with Batman, unexpected people will just turn up. The last episode I saw had Lesely Gore on it as a character named Pussycat. So suggestive...tsk, tsk....she had these cute little mittens...

Chick-
You know I think I just need to sit down and rewatch this show. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid...had the worst crush on Mike... he had some really great songs. The video for Rio is just classic.

Randal-
Yeah I saw a bunch of these on MTV too. Remember when they used to show Monty Python and REmote Control?

Dean-
Holy cow that's cool. Was it just Peter, Mickey and Davy?

Arkonbey-
Dada-esque that's a great way to describe it!

Julie Newmar was so statuesque and vivacious. If you have never seen her in McKenna's Gold with Gregory Peck and Omar Shariff please give it a shot. A technicolor western shot around Arizona's Monument Valley. She plays a scar faced Apache girl and is great and sexy in it.

She has always been one of my favs. Remember her as Catwoman?

It was all four guys. I know Nesmith doesn't get along with the rest but this was the period of time when he was on board with Monkee mania.

Swinebread-
She's one of the most amazing looking women to every live...and that voice!

Bill-
I haven't seen that! But I'm a pretty big Gregory peck fan so I will certainly check it out!

M.Yu-
What a great video!!! That catsuit and those ears! Is there a sexier outfit in existance? I think not.

Dean-
Oh that is soooo cool! So did they actually play instruments on stage or did they just sing?

I visit your blog a lot but have never commented before. I never knew Julie Newmar was on the Monkees....I only know her/love her from Batman fame. In fact, your post inspired me to attempt a Catwoman drawing I've thought about doing, and I'll be doing more soon.
Check it out here...

Becca,

I'm such a Monkees nerd - that when I teach TV criticism at the University - we do a module JUST on the Monkees. That show was about 40 years ahead of its time. Told ya, big Monkees nerd here. I even sent Taliesin from Taliesin meets the Vampires - a copy of the episode The Monstrous Monkee Mash just so he could review it in his "Honourable Mentions" as it has some proper "Vampire" stuff in it (as well as the lovely Arlene Martel). Damn, but those box sets are expensive. I bought them a year apart (and didn't pay full price, nooo way). Cheers Becca.

And gosh I don't remember that episode of The Monkees either! I think it's time for me to start Tivo-ing the show and rewatching it. T'Pring? Cool!
