I got distracted yesterday and didn't havew time to blog but I wanted to wish Adam West a Happy 80th Birthday! And in celebration here are 5 facts you may or may not have known about the man:
1. After playing the role of a resourceful secret agent in a Nestle's Quik commercial in the early '60s, he caught the eye of ABC execs. They figured that he might be right for an upcoming TV show that was about to be produced, Batman. The rest is history.
2. According to DC Comics statistics, Batman stands 6-foot-2. Of all the actors who have played Batman, West is believed to be the only one who stood the same height.
3. Had his creative dentist add a little black Batman logo to one of his molars.
4. He is a prolific voice-over actor in animation appearing on The Simpsons, The Critic, The Boondocks, Histeria!, Kim Possible, Johnny Bravo, The Fairly OddParents, Family Guy, and Robot Chicken. His latest voice-over performance was playing the role of Uncle Art in the Disney film Meet the Robinsons.
5. His given name is William West Anderson.

Gasp! Now I have to go home and watch some Batman.
"I never needed plastic molding to improve my physique. Pure. West."
Another fact: In 1999 I attended a Sun Valley (Idaho) Symphony performance of "Carnival of the Animals" with Mr. West reading the rhythmic verses for each movement. It was a free performance with lots of kids in attendance, and he seemed to truly enjoy his role.
Also? The Bat-tusi? His idea, except he wanted to do it shirtless.
I like the fact that he showed up in Batman: The Animated Series as the Gray Ghost which turned out to have inspired a young Bruce Wayne...
He's got to have a good self-deprecating sense of humor I think. I hope.
Otherwise, he's kinda creepy.
Yet another fact:
Adam West was good friends with James Best (Rosco P. Coltrane from The Dukes of Hazzard) in his younger days, and they used to frequently take a couple ladies on double dates back in the 1960's.
For some reason, this paints one of the most bizarre pictures - can you imagine being on a double date with Batman and Rosco!?!
I don't really like Family Guy, but love seeing Mayor Adam West on it. It's pretty darn cool that West plays himself as someone completely different; rather like Neil Patrick Harris in Harold & Kumar.
Adam West....sexiest voice ever!
Randal-
There are worse ways to spend your time :)
Adam-
Holy cow that's cool!
Spin-
God I hope you made that up :)
Anon-
I forgot about that! What a great inside joke!
Bubs-
Yeah. Did you see his guest spot on King of Queens? Hilarious!
Gilligan-
Eeek that's soooo weird! I would love to hear from some of the girls who went on those double dates!
Arkonbey-
I think my two favorite Adam West Family Guy moments are the cat launcher and the death of the noid. Priceless!
Laura-
Never thought of it that way but now that you've said it...
pow! gazooey! crush!
