Crime Detective Comics!

There are so many things wrong with this cover I don't even know where to begin! Was there really a "real police case" of hoods robbing a gorilla's apartment? And...wait...there are gorillas renting apartments? What did he just come home from a hard day at the office to a bunch of thugs robbing his banana stash? And what the hell is that gorilla holding?!?

At the time this was published it was relatively common (well, common in detective movies and novels, anyway) to refer to slow-witted, big bodied gun thugs as "gorillas."

Oh, believe me, talk to some old-timers...this happened all the time. Especially out west.

So someone's robbing a gorilla, and it ISN'T King K. Rool?

I think the gorilla is holding the doorknob to the door, though how he got into the apartment every day without tearing apart the door each time is beyond me!

Spin the Moon, that's easy. He normally didn't lock the door. The crooks locked it while they were breaking into the safe. That's also probably a gorilla hooked up with a side show (put a bikini on it and call it the "world's hairiest woman"), so the money it made during the fair season lasted it through the winter.

Tribe-
Yeah I know I just love the idea of real Gorillas intermingling in human society.

Bubs-
Ha!

Nathan-
Ha! Way to go with the Donkey Kong reference!

Spin-
Yeah that would be a problem he faces everyday just like Tor Johnson?

Anon-
Those vile criminals...stealing from the world's hairiest woman they should be ashamed ;)

Steve-
That's because monkeys are da bomb!

Thoughtcriminal-
Ha! Yeah they had to with all the gorillas and Chuds living in the cities...before they moved to the sewers.

Jay-
Aw thank you! I love the colors!
