Well, the illustrations on the cover of the first one definitely remind me of Degas' dancers, so "Illustrated in the French Manner" makes sense to me.
The second one, I would buy for the cover alone, a beautiful, curvaceous redhead in a mini and heels, that is my kryptonite. I wouldn't care if it was ultra-thin or blank inside.

Was the "Les Girls" the basis for the Gene Kelly musical of the same name?
only 25 cents for a guide to the opposite sex - boy they come cheap
CRwM: Yes, it was, and if you watch the trailer for it, count how many times the narrator emphasizes the pronunciation as "LAY girls"!
Distributorcap,
I believe the expression should be
"Girls, they come cheap . . ."
I wish you had the book on line.
It would be interesting to see what was "known" then, and how it differs from now.
Probably no to much.
These are so great. THanks for sharing them.
These look like keepers -- fantastique!

When I finally get the novel published I'm so totally putting "Illustrated in the French Manner" on the cover!
