Elisabeth Sladen 1948-2011

I just read that Elisabeth Sladen passed away. She was always one of my favorite Doctor Who companions and I'm very sad to hear she's no longer with us. Thank you Sarah Jane wherever you are :)

NO!!!! I am so sorry to hear this!!! I was just watching Terror of the Zygons the other day and Genesis of the Daleks last night! One of my all-time favorite companions on DW and she seemed like such a wonderful woman in real life, too!

I've heard all these stories from people who've met her and how kind she seemed. It was really quite shocking to read she had passed away.
I hadn't even heard she was sick.

What a trooper. I hadn't heard she was sick either. I'm so happy that she returned to Doctor Who. I'm willing to bet she went surrounded by friends.

Though I had my first crush on Lalla Ward, Elisabeth's Sara Jane is THE quintessential companion.

Arkonbey-
I'm not sure how many people knew she was sick, it sort of seemed like a surprise to most people.

Lalla Ward? That's a great first crush :)

Admittedly, she'd left the show before I was born, but thanks to my local PBS, I'd witnessed the greatness of her as a companion. When I'd heard about the School Reunion episode on the revival, I went into fangirl mode (even if I'm a guy). I had enjoyed the Choose Your Own Adventure series that had featured her nephew and the K-9 Mark III around the time when I'd seen the Five Doctors special.

She was a legend, being the woman who'd worked with the most Doctors (1-5 & 10), second in numbers only to Nicholas Courtney, who has the current record (1-8).

However, my first companion crush was on Louise Jameson, but Elisabeth Sladen, Wendy Padbury, Sarah Sutton, and Nicola Bryant are currently on my list. Karen Gillan will be added as soon as I can watch the 11th Doctor's adventures.

PBS is how I was first able to see Who as well, though I didn't really get super into it til the 90's luckily by then there was lots of it on video so I was able to see bits and pieces from the different eras.

Oh wow I hadn't even considered the number of Who's she worked with and poor Nicholas died just a couple months ago. Yikes sad year for Who.

Was Courtney on one of 8's audio adventures? That would be cool to hear.

Ahhh Leela she was gorgeous! And probably my favorite Baker companion...probably. First Romana is so awesome.

#11 is great so far. You'll have to let me know what you think when you are abke to see some of it.
