The Best TV Holiday Specials

The Best of the TV Christmas Special

1. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)- Repelled by the commercialism he sees around him, Charlie Brown tries to find the true meaning of Christmas. This is a classic Christmas just isn't Christmas unless I've seen this at least once.

2. How the Gringch Stole Christmas! (1966)- A grumpy hermit hatches a plan to steal Christmas from the Whos of Whoville. Another great classic though sometimes I feel if I keep working retail I'll be this guy in 10 years.
Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

3. Blackadder's Christmas Carol (1988)- This is a great play on the Dicken's Christmas Carol story. This time Scrooge starts off far too generous only to learn the error of his ways. Great fun.
Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Part 5:

4. Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)- It's the same old classic Charles Dickens story with an all star Disney cast. Uncle Scrooge McDuck is appropriately enough Scrooge and is visited by his dead partner and 3 spirits one night to remember the joys of Christmas.
I couldn't find this to post it so here's an old Pluto Cartoon instead:

5. Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics (1999)- South Park's Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo hosts a collection of Christmas songs sung by South Park characters. Hilarious!

6. Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer (1964)- A misfit reindeer and his friends look for a place that will accept them. Everyone can relate to this one.

7. The Pee-Wee Herman Christmas Special (1988)- Come on it's Pee-Wee Herman!

8. John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together (1979)- In this beloved holiday classic, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and all the Muppets join the singer for a heart-warming Christmas celebration, with traditional carols as well as lesser-known holiday songs. I'm still a little disturbed by how much John Denver and Scooter look alike.

9. The Garfield Christmas Special (1987)- Yes I still love Garfield and I still love watching this Christmas special. Garfield, Jon and Odie go to Jon's grandmother's house for Christmas, where Garfield finds a present for Grandma. I love the scene where Jon's Grandmother and Garfield are rocking in her chair.
part 1:

part 2:

part 3:

10. Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas (1977)- Dirt poor otters help us learn the true meaning of Christmas isn't gifts or trinkets but family and love...awww how sweet.

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Part 5:

Brilliant! A wonderful compilation. It's great to see Xmas Pee-Wee!

Some of your readers may not be aware that the narrator and the voice of the Grinch was Boris Karloff, who played the monster in the 1931 film "Frankenstein," as well as "Bride of Frankenstein," "Son of Frankenstein." He was also the in "The Mummy," "The Body Snatcher," "The Mask of Fu Manchu," "The Black Cat," "The Raven," "Bedlam," and a whole bunch of great movies.

If you watch the Jim Carrey Grinch and, everytime a waspy, pointed nosed Who says,"The Grinch",replace the word Grinch with "JEW" and it works just fine and the TRUE meaning of Christmas can shine thru.

Wow, that's funny that you should post some of these. JUst last night I was clicking around and I was on the Pee Wee's Playhouse website, and one of the things on there is the whole opening montage for the Christmas Special (with the musical number and dancers, and looooong list of guest stars). I hadn't about it in a long time, but I remember watching it. That was one show I never missed when I was younger. I still enjoy his stuff. I also listend to the mp3 I have of Boris Karloff narating 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'

Personally I also enjoy most of the Rankin/Bass holiday specials (the best being Rudolph imo) I have to see that every year, I also like "Jack Frost" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"
Thanks for posting these. Have a merry Christmas.

Dr. Zaius-
Yes the Boris Karloff naration is my favorite part. Still everytime I think of Boris Karloff I find myself remembering Bela Lugosi's quote from Ed Wood...

"Karloff? Sidekick? FUCK YOU! Karloff did not deserve to smell my shit! That limey cocksucker can rot in Hell for all I care!"

Sparky-
LOL! Man it all makes sense now! Of course since Dr. Seuss himself was a jew it makes all the more sense.

Scurvy-
I didn't know there was a Pee-Wees Playhouse site, I'll have to check it out. And yes the Rankin Bass specials rocked hard. I haven't seen them in far too long.

Yeah, well, Lugosi was kind of a dick. I'm not trying to say that he was an bezoomny old soomka, but maybe he could've use a little nap before dinner. **I'm just saying.**
