Which Classic Star are you?
I found this quiz on PJ's Blog.
Your Score: Barbara Stanwyck
You scored 30% grit, 19% wit, 38% flair, and 21% class!
You're a tough dame, a bit of a spitfire, and you can even be a little dangerous, but you do it with such flair that almost all is forgiven (and even when it's not, you're still the most interesting woman in the room). You can be witty and charming, all right, but you have a tough streak that keeps you focused and sometimes deadly. You've had quite a climb to get where you are, but you're a hard worker and you mostly deserve all you get...and then some. You might end up destroying everything around you, but you must admit...you've got style. Your leading men include Henry Fonda, Fred MacMurray, and when you forget yourself, Gary Cooper.

Your Score: William Powell
You scored 11% Tough, 38% Roguish, 19% Friendly, and 33% Charming!
You are the classic rogue, a stylish rake with the devil of a wit and a flair for mischief, and you shake your martinis to waltz time. You are charming and debonair, but slightly untrustworthy, and women should be on their guard. If married, you are simply a bit of a flirt, even if it's just with your own wife...but if you're single, watch out. You usually rein yourself in to concentrate on one lovely beauty at a time, but with you, we never know. You're an inviting partner, but there's a playful devil behind your eyes, and those trying to get close to you should know they're playing with fire. You're stylish and fun, but you follow your own course, which may or may not include a steady gal. Co-stars include Myrna Loy and Carole Lombard, classy ladies with an adventurous streak.

A few thoughts on Doctor Who's Third Season
Alot of Doctor Who fans I know have been talking about how weak this current third season has been and I guess I agree to some extent (I can't however completely hate a season with episodes as fantastic as Gridlock and Human Nature).
People hate David Tennant hammy acting, they hate Freema Agyeman who plays the new companion calling her a boring actress portraying an even duller character...I've even heard from people who think many of the episodes this season have been emasculating the doctor, making him too vulnerable and less of than the idyllic hero he's always been. I myself like David Tennant's crazy facial expressions, I don't mind Martha though she is pretty dull so far and I've been very fascinated by this look at some of The Doctor's flaws, it makes him a more interesting and dramatic character as long as they don't go too overboard with it.
But if I'm enjoying this season a bit less than the previous two I think it's cause Rose is gone. The more I think back to the first two seasons the more I come to realize that The Doctor wasn't the show's lead character, Rose was. She was the audience's entry point and we saw so many aspects of her life, we learned about her past, her pains, her joys and so much more. So if I'm enjoying the third season a bit less I think lack of Rose might be why.
Still I can't wait to see where this season is going Samuraifrog has an excellent post over on Electronic Cerebrectomy featuring his theories on the ultimate direction of this season. It's exciting speculation, completely brilliant and I can't wait to see if that's how things will unfold.

Barbarella Saved!
Well at least it has a fighting chance now...
From Dark Horizons:
Robert Rodriguez has signed on to direct Universal's new adaptation of the classic sci-fi comic book "Barbarella." Immortalized in the famous campy 1968 movie starring Jane Fonda, plans are to rush the new film out in time for a release sometime next year - coinciding with the original's 40th anniversary.
"Barbarella" tells the story of a female mercenary who roams across the universe of a distant future, undertaking missions that require physical fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality.
Scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade ("Casino Royale") are penning a completely new adventure for the galactic heroinne.
Here's hoping this means that Kate Beckinsale is out and Rose McGowan is in as our lovely lead Barbarella!

Guess That Movie Quote Week 2!
It was so much fun when we did this last week I've decided to make this a weekly contest. As people guess the source of the quote I will grey it out and give them credit, the person who has the most correct guesses each week will get one of these fun movie genius awards for their blog.
Lee since you had the most correct guesses last week here is your award! You rock you movie genius you!
Now onto this week's quotes!
1. "What's the matter? The food ain't that bad, baby." SamuraiFrog
2. "Will you look at that! Look how she moves! It's like Jell-O on springs. Must have some sort of built-in motor or something. I tell you, it's a whole different sex!" J.D.
3. "We're all very different people. We're not Watusi, we're not Spartans, we're Americans. With a capital "A", huh? And you know what that means? Do you? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts." SamuraiFrog
4. "Remember, there's always something cleverer than yourself." Scurvy
5. "I was partial to tragedy in my youth. That was before experience taught me that life was tragical enough without my having to write about it." Scurvy
6. "The central message of Buddhism is not Every man for himself." SamuraiFrog
7. "I'm going crazy. I'm standing here solidly on my own two hands and going crazy." J.D.
8. "If I could only have one food to eat for the rest of my life? That's easy. Pez. Cherry flavor Pez. No question about it." SamuraiFrog
9. "Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life." SamuraiFrog
10. "One from the vaults... Don't be upset. It was a mercy killing. He had a certain naive charm, but no muscle." SamuraiFrog
**Update** Well SamuraiFrog has proven his movie geniusness this week and so here is his mighty award! Thanks to everyone who guessed and come on back next Monday for more quote guessing fun!

Overlooked Movies: Forbidden Zone
When Forbidden Zone first came out in 1982, I had lost my shirt paying for it and moved back to France for a while. When I returned, the film had played out its summer theatrical run and seemed to disappear. It wasn't until a few years ago, when I went on line with my first website and had several hundred thousand hits from people all over the world, that I realized that the film had become some sort of a cult hit. What was more surprising was that much of the following were students who weren't even around in the days of the Mystic Knights. I guess the film has "legs," although an oddly twisted, black and white set of them.~ Director Richard Elfman
A mysterious door in the basement of the Hercules house leads to the Sixth Dimension by way of a gigantic set of intestine. When Frenchy slips through the door, King Fausto falls in love with her. The jealous Queen Doris takes Frenchy prisoner, and it is up to the Hercules family and friend Squeezit Henderson to rescue her.
Click here to watch the trailer:

Tagline:
A chaotic musical fantasy.

Fun Trivia:
Director Richard Elfman and star Marie-Pascale Elfman, who were married at the time, financed the movie by buying, renovating and selling houses. They ran out of money and the movie was rescued by a benefactor.

This movie was originally a series of musical productions done first in 16mm, then expanded and re-shot in 35mm. The movie was shot in black and white not for any artistic vision but because they didn't have enough money for color film. The storyline about the adventures of a family who explore the 6th Dimension was added later to tie everything together.
The headlines on Pa's newspapers are:
-Man Bites Dog Then Bites Self
-French Girl Missing, Strange Circumstances.
-Two More Missing, Similar Circumstances.
Frenchy's singing voice is Josephine Baker's. She is singing one of Josephine's classics "La Petite Tonkinoise" and when the family sings "Some of These Days," Pa's voice is supplied by Cab Calloway.

The strange pair of singers who appear during the Bim Bam Boom number and who sing in gibberish is the performance art duo The Kipper Kids (Martin von Haselberg & Brian Routh) they also appeared in the great Weird Al movie UHF. Extra factoid Martin is married to Bette Midler.
Not only is this Danny Elfman's first film as composer, it also marks the first appearance of his band Oingo Boingo, here billed as the Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo.
Click here to watch Danny Elfman as Satan sing a little tune called Squeezit The Moocher:
Susan Tyrell was convinced by Richard Elfman to appear in the film, and in turn brought in Herve Villechaize. Villechaize and Tyrell had been a real-life couple as well.
Click here to watch Susan Tyrell vamp it up in song:
According to Matthew Bright in the film's commentary, in the original conception of his classroom humiliation scene, Squeezit was supposed to be castrated in front of the other students.
The pin-up girl painting that King Fausto (Herve Villechaize) works on was done by Los Angeles-area painter Robert Blue, which was stolen from the painter's studio not long after the film's completion. In real life however, Villechaize was himself a skilled painter.

Several family members and business associates of director Richard Elfman's appear in the film in various roles: his then-wife Marie-Pascale Elfman and brother Danny Elfman (both of whom performed with him in the Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo theater troupe); his grandfather Herman Bernstein plays The Old Yiddish Man; and the brothers' father Milton Elfman, appearing both as a factory worker and a background singer. Hyman Diamond (who plays Grampa Hercules), was Richard Elfman's real estate broker, appearing under a pseudoynm after the original actor fell through. Two of Richard Elfman's tenants from one of his real estate properties agreed to make cameos, as girls going into the classroom. Actor/writer Matthew Bright (a childhood friend of Danny Elfman's), and actor Gene Cunningham (credited as Ugh-Fudge Bwana) were themselves members of the brothers' Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo as well.
Fun Quotes:
Ma: Flash, be sure and tie your grandfather up and check the knots real good. While he was sniffing around for food yesterday, he nearly wandered into the Forbidden Zone.
Chicken: You know the chickens are always ready to help you any way we can. But as you know...
Squeezit: What can chickens do?
Chicken: Precisely.
Queen Doris: Why does it feel so good to be sooooo bad?
King Fausto: I will have a whole army of zombies! A zombie Marine Corps, a zombie Navy Corps, zombie Space Cadets...
Satan: [singing to princess] Be nice to me, babe or you'll regret it. You are my hostage and don't you forget it. The night is early and there's lots to be done. Lets boogy now, come on, we're gonna have some fun.

Sophie Howard's Self Portraits
Super beautiful British pin-up Sophie Howard took some self-portraits and here they are! I really love them...I mean aside from the fact that there is a beautiful naked woman here...esthetically I really love them, the angles, the lighting...they are just really interesting and neat to look at. I'm so sick of the trend in modern nude photography magazines like Playboy to smear Vaseline on the camera and shoot the model head-on in the dullest backgrounds imaginable. Of course it doesn't help that most of these girls have one or two lack luster facial expressions and when you are looking 30 or 40 pictures it gets really dull really quick. So bring on more interesting nudes like these!

Stranglehold
I just read that Midway Games has partnered with The Weinstein Company and Genius Products to create the first video game-movie hybrid Blu-ray Disc and it's a sequel to the John Woo classic Hard Boiled called Stranglehold.
The interactive Stranglehold has actor Chow Yun-Fat reprising his role as Inspector Tequila in an original plot that takes place 10 years after the events of the movie. The $70 disc will come with the full version of the game as well as a Blu-Ray version of Hard Boiled. Woo created the game’s story, directed the motion-capture action and oversaw the game’s development.
Interesting.

The Mummy Returns!
...Well not that one...or that one either...
From Empire Online:
Well, this is unusual. Following Rachel Weisz's decision not to reprise her role as Evelyn in the third film in the Mummy saga, the film has now picked up Maria Bello. In the new film, Bello, Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford, as their now all grows up son, head to China and the Himalayas where they do battle with a shapeshifting mummy and a former Chinese Emperor (Jet Li), who's been cursed by a sorceress (Michelle Yeoh).
Bello's fantastic in films like A History of Violence and Thank You For Smoking, so we're all for this as a casting switcheroo. Hopefully the material will be worthy of its new leading lady.
Hmmm plot sounds kind of cool and I do love the other two movies so we'll just have to see...still I'll miss Racel Weisz's sweet, bumbling, eccentricity.

Hammer Returns!
According to Empire online a Dutch producer, John De Mol, has snagged the rights to Hammer's library of over 300 films, including Dracula, Frankenstein and the Mummy. The reborn studio intends to produce projects for both film and TV. Could be very cool to have some classic horror in this era of the oh so popular torture porn flicks like Hotel and Touristas.

Name That Movie!
Inspired by Jess's very fun Friday Shuffle (he posts a batch of lyrics you guess the song) I've decided to post a list of movie quotes and see if anyone can guess them.
**Update** All but two have been guessed! You all rock! I will grey out the quotes that have been guessed correctly, check the comments for the answers!

(Lee)
2. "Roses are red, violets are blue. I'm a schizophrenic, and so am I."(SamuraiFrog)

10. "In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea."(MC)
