Suddenly it all seems so real!

I will be making my first public appearance as an illustrator at Wizard World Chicago August 9th-12th, one of the biggest comic book conventions in the midwest. I reserved space all the way back in Feburary but they've finally updated their website with the names of guests and sure enough my name is there. Seeing my name in a list of dozens in very small print has made this all very real and it's making me so nervous! I've never done anything like this before so I'm not quite sure what to expect. If I sell anything at all I will consider it a triumph. If anyone who reads this blog is in the Chicagoland area feel free to drop on by and say hello!

Congrats! I'd love to get into that myself, for when I was young the thing I wanted to do most was be a comic book illustrator. I moved on to painting, and sadly I don't draw much anymore (save cartoon style vans). Best of luck at the show.

Van painting is very cool tho! I'd love to see some of your drawings if you ever feel like posting!

That sounds like a really cool idea! Who should we draw? Should it be the same character or each pick one for the other to draw? I can't wait to do this!

Dr. Monkey-
Thank you! With all this support I should have great luck!

OoooH! I wanna go! Hmmph. I never get to go anywhere.

It doesn't matter if you sell anything there. Everybody that goes to those thing has saved up all year to buy specific items, and are going to focus on those things. But they will come and look at your work, at least.

Just enjoy yourself and talk to everybody. Take lots of pictures so you can blog them! Please!

Your drawing is great! the expression on the girl's face is really the focus of the piece. It is very iconic, like a Vargas. Baby dinosaur's face is hilarious! He is mocking the girl, the little turd!

OK I think I've worked out how this could work.

I give you a character to draw, you give me a character to draw and we choose a character for us both to draw?

What do you think?

Dr. Zaius-
Yeah I know it's all about exposure and trying to make contacts but part of me (you know the unrealistic niave bit) is really hoping I can sell a few things and make a bit of money doing something I actually like for a change. Maybe 20 years from now I might actually be doing a job in my field of choice instead of that retail wage slave thing I'm doing now.

And I promise to take lots of pictures, maybe even a video or two. Conventions rock.

Baby dinosaurs are complete bastards, its the natural order of things.

I'm popping over to your blog to discuss further.
