Remembering Majel Barrett Roddenbery

I just found out that Majel Barrett Roddenbery passed away at the age of 76. I always loved her as Nurse Chapel and her various other incarnations on Star Trek. To honor her memory here are some great pictures of a great lady.

She was the only person to be in every Star Trek incarnation. She was the computer's voice. TNG tried to use someone else, but I think they figured out Mrs. Roddenberry's voice was an important element.

I remember her best as Lwaxana Troi, she always made me laugh.

Damn. I'm in shock. I don't remember being this in shock when Gene passed on, but Majel was almost synonymous with Star Trek. I know she helped get some of Gene's other projects onto TV, and Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict were definitely memorable to me.

Pardon me while I go listen to Amazing Grace played on bagpipes, while I fondly remember her, along with DeForest Kelley and James Doohan.

May their Wagon Train to the stars live on in perpetuity.

Her efforts were enormous. She helped influence countless people. There were few like her...

What particularly wonderful pictures of her as Number One, an especially great and underrated character. And both photos of her with Gene are also appreciated.

It's very cool how she was there from the beginning and will even be in the new movie. Very cool, she was such a neat actress.

I always loved the episodes with Lwaxana! That's how you knew she was a great actress, she played a character who could have been quite annoying but she made her endearing instead :)

I forgot about Andromeda and Earth! I watched them both for a while but lost interest in both. Boy I miss Kelley and Doohan and Welshy...WELSHY!

She really did seem to have a huge impact on so many people.

I know! She seemed like such a strong femal character! I would really have loved to seen what could have been...but then we would not have had that great Spock/ Kirk/ McCoy relationship.

Thanks! I'm happy to share!

Yeah, I've been too shocked to come up with anything to write.

Okay, same anonymous as before. I've had enough time to come to grips with her passing to relate this story.

Back when Gene originally pitched the show to NBC, the pilot episode "The Menagerie", executives told him to get rid of the female commander and the pointy-eared guy. Gene negotiated with the executives until he was told to keep one and change the other. Later Gene's credited with saying "Well, I decided to keep Leonard and marry Majel." I don't think NBC would have been to kind on the series if he'd done it the other way... :)
